Marriott now largest hotels chain in India

US multinational Marriott has overtaken Taj Hotels Resorts and places to officially becomes country's largest hotel chain with 79 hotels with a total of 18,000 rooms.

In comparison, Tata's Taj Hotels has 136 hotels with a total of 16,600 rooms.

Marriott International has acquired Starwood Hotels and Resorts creating world's largest hotel company and bringing together 30 hotel brands. The new company will now operate or franchisee more than 5,700 properties and 1.1 million rooms.

The merged entity will open 80 news hotels in India next 3-4 years.
